I think Newsboys hey-day in popularity is here, but they hey-day when it came to producing good music has passed.
Take Me to Your Leader is a good, solid, clever album. (Maybe getting rid of John James was the start of their demise.) "Lost the plot" is a great song. There some other really good ones on there too. Step up to the Microphone wasn't too shabby, either, though they were definitely going downhill then.
Funny, my favorite Christian albums came out in the whole Jesus Freak era. DcTalk's Jesus Freak (of course), Newsboys' TMTYL and AudioAdrenaline's Some Kind of Zombie. Unfortunately, dcTalk is now defunct, and both the Newsboys and AudioA have seen better days. Still, you got to admit, a band like Switchfoot stands on the shoulders of groups like dcTalk.
PS: I know the Cheerio song is cheesy, but it's kind of fun, and even though I can't whistle, it's witty and I like it (at times...the album is not here with me at school). It's a guilty pleasure of mine. =)
