So I was watching an SNL rerun today and, curiously, Sting hosted one episode but was not the musical guest. And man, I gotta tell you... it really turned my stomach to see the great Sting introduce Veruca Salt as the performer and then just stand by and watch them. Who in their right mind would rather hear Veruca Salt over Sting, for crying out loud?

Oh, and an amusing exchange from a sketch in that same episode:

"Sometimes it gets old when Sting plays the socially-concious rockstar. It's a little too..."
"Bono?"
"No, not so much Bono. More like..."
"Michael Stipe?"
"Thank you!"

I think it's a general rule that the host isn't also the musical guest...at least I can't name a time that the host did both (there probably are times this happened though).

I think Jack Black is hosting tonight, but Tenacious D isn't going to be the musical guest (John Mayer is).  Now, honestly, I'll take Tenacious D's antics over John Mayer because I know that at least I'll be entertained.

It works the other way, too.  Could you imagine if they made us suffer Russell Crowe's band?

Actually there have been numerous times that the host has done both.  Such as:Desi Arnaz, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Hammer, Deborah Harry, Quincy Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Jennifer Lopez, Willie Nelson, Olivia Newton-John, Dolly Parton, The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Britney Spears, Sting, Lily Tomlin, Stevie Wonder, and Frank Zappa

I hear that Justin Timberlake will join this list this season.

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

Speaking of Sting, Russ Breimeier from ChristianityToday.com told me that he got his new album, and he said he was disappointed because he considered the album to be full of heresies.

Now he's very big on spirituality in pop music (evidenced in his Glimpses of God pieces), so I'm intrigued as to why he said that.  I myself haven't heard the new record.

Anybody else has thoughts on this?

Peace,
Andree

I've heard half the record and didn't notice any heresies; in fact, "Dead Man's Rope" is one of the most overtly Christian songs of the year.
