I'll be too sad if "Fake Plastic Trees" goes.  It speaks to me, and I was hoping for at least 2 Bends tracks on the finished disc.  It just seems neat that way, 1 for PH, 2 for Bends, different numbers ] 2 for the others...shows a certain forward-moving progress that I think is true of this band.  I also think it matches the concensus for the phorum, that basically says PH [ the Bends [ The Rest of their Albums (in various orders)

BUT, I'm definitely not going to change the rules on you, unless people are with me.  Tell me what you think, folks, and think about what the track list will look like.  I want it weighted toward the later albums, personally, but not so much that it doesn't really describe their career thus far.  Opinions, Dv, murlough, Josh, Andree, whoever?

If only you told me the idea to give the last two tracks on a given album immunity earlier, Dv.  It wouldn't feel right to change the rules now without popular consent.

btw, I apologize that the thread seems like Calvinball sometimes.  It's my first time moderating anything like this, and it's hard to see all the safeguards that probably should be.

Yes, everyone, Fake Plastic Trees must stay!  I appeal to all of your senses of decency, and humbly recquest that you change your votes against Fake Plastic Trees, and vote for Linkin Park's "With You" instead. Wink   The Bends is an awesome album, and deserves to be better represented in the final disk.  In fact, if you will change you votes, I might be willing to vote off a track of your choice in the next round.  Please, think of the Trees. hmm...a Best-Of Linkin Park would be interesting I suppose, wouldn't it.  I'd want to start a round by voting Reanimation tracks vs. Hybrid Theory tracks (to exclude too much redundancy), and then go ahead with the voting between Hybrid Reanimation and Meteora.  Three rounds later and voila! . . . Best-Of Linkin Park.

If the final collection is going to have 16 tracks, then I propose the following:

1 from Pablo Honey
2 from The Bends (I only voted for FPT to protect Street Spirit anyway)
4 from OK Computer
3 from Kid A
3 from Amnesiac
3 from Hail to the Thief

= 16 total

Doing a Best-Of Linkin Park at a stage when they only have two albums out would be silly, IMO. Of course that never stops record labels, now does it? Anyway, if I had to whittle down that collection to 16 tracks based on what they have out now, I'd choose:

Papercut
One Step Closer (I actually like the remix better, but this was their first big hit and most fans didn't like the remix as much)
Crawling
In the End
Pushing Me Away
My December
PTS.OF.ATHRTY (I believe the remix was a single and the original never was)
FRGT/10 (way better than the original, very different side of LP, and the guest rap is sweet)
WTH]YOU (pretty much the same as the original, but I like Aceyalone's rap verse)
Somewhere I Belong
Lying from You
Hit the Floor
Easier to Run
Faint
Breaking the Habit
Nobody's Listening

There, 16 tracks. They aren't ordered in a way that I would find interesting, though. They've done very few mellow tracks, so it wouldn't be hard for me to make a mix that flowed well, but figuring out how to end it would be tricky (as it is for the band, I don't think any of their albums end with a song that feels like it should be at the end of an album.)

I think Kid A ] OK Computer by a small margin, so I'd rather just see what happens with the others as I'd imagine all would be ] 2.  Since it's cool with you to have 2 from the Bends, maybe I'll just redo this round and vote in accordance with that layout, though, as I think that is pretty close to the concensus (that OKC ] every other album they've done).

I'll ask Dv if that sounds good to do because I do think your layout makes sense with what most people feel about the albums as they compare to each other.  Maybe split it up again, have our PH track and Bends tracks w/ immunity, then vote 1 off each of the albums since OKC (maybe a top choice and a second backup choice for each vote).  I think that's probably a good idea.

I agree with that. After The Bends, just let the people speak as to which albums they want to hear the most tracks from. While I think Amnesiac [ everything after The Bends, I do still hold the remaining tracks from it in high regard. OK, so I don't like the lyrics to "Knives Out", but musically it's quite well composed - and "Pyramid Song" was actually my entry point, the first Radiohead song I truly liked enough to put it on one of my "personal" soundtracks. "I Might Be Wrong" followed, then I went back and used "Idioteque" (I generally only use current stuff, so taking something from an older album is a huge exception from me), and well... the dam pretty much burst after that and I had to admit that I was a Radiohead fan. Not bad for a band I was determined not to like just because they were getting so much hype from everyone else. I think what initially piqued my curiosity was their fall 2000 performance on SNL.

I say do it.  Sounds good to me.

If it'll allow "Fake Plastic Trees" another chance at life, then by all means.

Peace,
Andree

David's plan sounds fine with me.

By the way, after hearing Radiohead play a GORGEOUS version of "Fake Plastic Trees" last night in Atlanta, my appreciation for the song has SKYROCKETED. Same goes with a few of their other songs, actually, including "Creep."
