Since DVChWi (what the heck does that name mean, anyway?) mentioned a best-of Linkin Park in the Best-Of Radiohead thread, and bloop mentioned that it would be insanely redundant if the remixes weren't compared against the originals first (I think such a collection would be premature altogether), I decided it'd be fun to compare the originals from Hybrid Theory from the remixes on Reanimation and see how they stack up. As a whole, I think Reanimation's a more creative effort than Hybrid Theory, but HT is more consistently listenable - basically Reanimations has higher highs (due to musical diversity and some good guest appearance) and lower lows. Anyway, here's how I'd compare the originals vs. the remixes:

Papercut ] PPR.KUT
One Step Closer [ 1STP KLOSR (I like the techno intro and Jonathan Davis' additions are pretty cool)
With You [ WTH]YOU (Aceyalone's rap verse adds a lot)
Points of Authority [ PTS.OF.ATHRTY
Crawling ~ KRWLING (can't really decide, both are well done)
Runaway ] RNW@Y (the remix really seems unnecessary on this one, and the guest rap is totally non-sequitur)
By Myself ] BY_MYSLF (barely)
In the End ] ENTH E ND (no contest, the remix is just plain embarassing and the original is my favorite LP song)
A Place for My Head ] PLC.4 MIE HAED (the remix was pretty cool until Zion blurted out "you pissed on my lawn")
Forgotten [ FRGT/10 (one of the most creative and surprisingly effective remixes I've ever heard)
Cure for the Itch ~ KYUR 4 TH ICH (both are rather unnecessary)
Pushing Me Away ] P5NG ME A*WY
High Voltage [ H! VLTG3 (this song is ridiculous no matter how you slice it, but the guest raps make me chuckle)
My December ] MY<DSMBR

Final score:
Originals - 7
Remixes - 5

I agree, except I think the remix "krwlng" is tremendously better than "crawling".

You're absolutely correct about "In the End".  The remix is terrible on that one.  The original at least makes a nice song to sync-up anime cartoon videos.

Wow, I'm surprised you actually listened to Reanimation enough to be able to respond.

I secretly like the "Crawling" remix, even though the lyrics do less than nothing for me.

I agree with most of that, but I think BY_MYSLF is better... Krwling is better than Crawling I think.

You've apparently never had anxiety attacks. (Fortunately.) That's why I relate to that song. Probably not what inspired it, but it's actually an accurate depiction of what it feels like. Sure, the lyrics may not be on the level with Thom Yorke's or anything, but I think it's got some good lines. "Against my will I stand beside my own reflection" - I love that one in particular.

When you're as vague in what you're feeling as Linkin Park tends to be, then it makes sense that you could relate it to panic attacks, melanoma, or your parents not giving you $1 for a double cheesburger at McDonalds, but you're right in that I haven't had any of the above three problems.

That's the beauty of art, though, isn't it? One can get more out of it than the artist puts into it, or relate to it in a way that the artist didn't intend.

I haven't listened to LP in awhile...well, I took a listen at Meteora last week, but it didn't hold me as it has before... Anyway, "Somewhere I Belong", I can relate to, because I often feel out of place anywhere I go. And I don't know, I don't think that's just teen angst. I mean in some ways yes, but it's a pretty human thing to find one's niche. Anyway...

I haven't listened to the remixes, so I cannot contribute any further to this thread.

I agree with you except for on "By Myself" and "Pushing Me Away", where I think the remixes are better.  I think you are totally dead on when you say that Reanimation has higher highs and lower lows.  Since I find Linkin Park's regular albums to have already worn out the concept they are going for, the remixes are a refreshing change of pace from all the monotony.  Just so you know, here are all the LP songs that I would ever consider putting on a favorites disc:

In the End(my favorite of theirs)
Breaking the Habit(their poppiest song yet, but I like it.  So sue me)
Faint(I like he feel of the rap part)
P5NG ME A*WY(I like what the electronics add.)
PTS.OF.ATHRTY(Has a better "drive" to it than the original.

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

My reasoning on "Pushing Me Away" is that they messed with the chorus. As for "By Myself", both versions are almost the same to me, the remix just drags on longer.

You have just called "Linkin Park" art. I will proceed to slap you:

SLAP!

And I happen to despise the remix disc, except for the remix of Crawling, which is passable. Just.

Lol. I rarely laugh out loud when online, but honestly, when I read your post, Skrappy, I laughed. I think it would have been appropriate to have used this smilie:  :bosh:

Thank you for the laugh, Skraps.

Btw, I never said it was good or bad art. Yeesh.

Don't worry, the Beatles still rock my world. I've still got taste.  Wink

(I'm still waiting for the "next Beatles". And forty years later....)

The only song that I have heard, knowing it was Toto, was Africa. I like that song quite a bit actually.

It's a band from the 80s, that's all I can tell you.

I really liked the harmonies on Africa. And the instrumentation with the synths and such are nice.

And here, my knowledge of Toto ends.
