I thought I would try out this idea I've been thinking about lately. Each week, we take one song, post the lyrics, and discuss it, both its meaning and its music. Let me know what you think about this. To kick us off for this week, though, here are the lyrics to U2's "Love is Blindness" Love is blindness I don't want to see Won't you wrap the night Around me Oh my heart Love is blindness
In a parked car In a crowded street You see your love Made complete Thread is ripping The knot is slipping Love is blindness
Love is clockworks And cold steel Fingers too numb to feel Squeeze the handle Blow out the candle Love is blindness
Love is blindness I don't want to see Won't you wrap the night Around me Oh my love Blindness
A little death Without mourning No call And no warning Baby...a dangerous idea That almost makes sense
Love is drowning In a deep well All the secrets And no one to tell Take the money Honey Blindness
Love is blindness I don't want to see Won't you wrap the night Around me Oh my love Blindness
There we go. If you haven't heard the song, try to listen to it so you can take part in the discussion. Also, if you think this is just a lame idea, please let me know that, too.

Good idea, but next week we really should discuss the lyrics of Evanescence's "Hello"

Great idea, Dv. I like it a lot.
We need to come up with some method for determining who gets to select the song of the week.
Now... on to Achtung:
I love that song. One of the best U2 has ever done, and tragically omitted from the Best-of collection.
Lyrics? They're about terrorism. Someone who loves his country or religion so much that he commits terrible acts of violence, all in the name of God, his motherland, or whatever.

I like that song as well, and Achtung Baby is the only U2 CD that I have here in its entirety.

Its a pretty good idea, Dv. As long as the songs aren't all Rh, REM, and U2. Let's get some other stuff in here, too.

I think, if you all think I can be trusted, that we could you have nominations made, and then I would pick out the song based how much discussion I think we could get out of it. I would try to be as fair as possible. Let me know if thats OK. About the song itself, that terrorist interpretation is new to me, but it actually does make sense. Is this your personal interpretation, or has the band ever mentioned this? The line that goes best with your specific interpreatation, I believe, is this one: A little death Without mourning No call And no warning Baby...a dangerous idea That almost makes sense
That sounds like a terrorist attack from the terrorist perspective.

Not sure how Bono meant the song, but I've never heard any interpretations that make sense outside of the terrorism one. In a parked car In a crowded street You see your love Made complete Thread is ripping The knot is slipping Love is blindness
Car bomb. Love is clockworks And cold steel Fingers too numb to feel Squeeze the handle Blow out the candle Love is blindness
Another bomb, and then perhaps a firearm. I definitely think it's about a religious zealot turned terrorist, just like "Exit" and "Please."

Ok, are we OK with me and Josh having dictatorial rule of the Song of the Week selection process? Provided, of course, that we mix it up a bit, by taking nominated songs? Does anyone have any objections or better ideas?

We could even start a sticky threads with the rules of the Song of the Week, and accept nominations on that thread.

well like rokran said.....and I do trust you but the rh rem u2 overkill has gone on a lot.......I say each member on the board get at least 1 chance....if they request it.....that way we can get a broad range of what different people are listening to as opposed to just 1 or 2

I'm with Matt. I want to think of this more as an intimate club where a member makes two or three song suggestions from an artist and we all discuss it, but we take turns, more or less.
Just a potential problem here: what happens when nobody has the suggestions?
(no, not that kind of intimate, sicko!)
