I didn't care much for that TJT live album. Too much crap from their debut album. "Musicbox Superhero" was the only song I even cared about from that record. If I'd have known you wanted it, I'd have passed my pre-release on to you.
Oh well, I suppose I can review it using the title "If I Told Them This Was Killing Me, Would They Stop?"
So Josh, what are your favorite TJT songs anyway? Mine would have to be:
To the Tune of 5,000 Screaming Children Do You Believe Me? Shell of a Man Liability We're Nothing Without You If I Told You This Was Killing Me, Would You Stop? This Is the End of Your Life We're at the Top of the World (To the Simple Two) In Conversation This Is Your Life Repeating, Repeating Don't Push Love Away White Days Musicbox Superhero Everything Bring It Low
NP: "Idioteque", Radiohead

Picked up Stevie Wonder's Innervisions today. Good stuff. Really good stuff.
bloop: Hey, if I figure out (and feel like doin' the stuff) the Pub hook up and all, maybe I'll put up a song from this album. (I say this only because I know you've got the vinyl version of this and so you can't put up anything.) ask if you need help on that. Vlad! in particular is very tech saavy. Also from Andree, I got Sleeping At Last reminded me of the Pumpkins when I heard them live, and they still do - love this one. My favorite from Andree other than the Delopoulos CD he sent me earlier this year. I'll probably pick up a copy and give it to my brother when I get the chance. Polyphonic Spree like the concept of the group and some of the music. Hippies can amaze and bewilder. the Thrills musically, definitely something borrowed, but I had a blast with it and felt that they at least borrowed liberally from different sounds that it kept me happy - too bad about that skipping 8th track, I gotta do something about that when I find my repair kit.

That CD is too on sale at various stores. No more than $10 for it. Man... that CD makes me smile like no other. I hear a lot of Lips (vocals & occasional sonic quirks), Beach Boys (harmonies & California rock tendencies), and even some Crosby, Stills & Nash (some of the instrumentation). One of the best debuts of the year.

Hey!
That's a great CD. Too bad it's flown so under the radar. It's truly a soothing, peaceful folk/pop album. I decided to investigate eastmountainsouth based on that sentence alone. Downloaded the album tonight, and it left me with a very good feeling after the first time through. Reminded me of so many pop/folk hybrid acts in different places, yet without ever feeling like they were ripping off any of them. Color me impressed. Maybe I'll write up a review in the next month or so, assuming my lasting impression is as good as my first one was.

I just picked up this one myself, after hearing the MP3s. Half.com has some copies for around $1, so if you like it in the slightest, I would grab it up!

I am also now the happy owner of The Wrens' The Meadowlands and and The Shin's Chutes Too Narrow. The Meadowlands is great, like the songs Bloop postedled me to belieave it would be, but I had no idea that it would really be quite as melancholy as it was. Man, its amazing these guys haven't killed themselves, to hear their lyrics. I hope the record sells well, so they can be happier. Much happier feeling, and probably more immediately accesable, Chutes Too Norrow is a very appealing album. I decided to order it along with the Wrens after hearing the whole album at work. This is a very fresh, fun sounding record. If you liked the track Skraps uploaded, you'll love the rest of the album, as well.

I got "The Diary of Alicia Keys" about a month ago, and it's great. Girlfriend can jam. It's a very nice album. Some people are calling a classic -- I wouldn't go that far--, but it's good nonetheless. She could definitely do without the unnecessary hip-hop cuts ("Karma," "Samsonite Man") and stick to the delightful, piano-based old soul she knows how to interpret very well ("You Don't Know My Name," "If I Ain't Got You"). If you don't mind me suggesting something to you, you might want to try the album The Soul Sessions, by Joss Stone. She's an amazingly gifted 16-year-old singer who does elegant, renditions of '60s and '70s soul classics. Oh, and she's white. I don't know how she does it. The album shouldn't be more than $10. Oh... and speaking of Best Buy.. Chutes Too Narrow by The Shins is gonna be on sale for $9 the whole week. Peace out, Andree

I got a review copy of the new Ani DiFranco album today. I'm not even remotely familiar with her older work, but this new album is interesting. Her voice can be an acquired taste, and the lyrics are a little too attitude-driven for me, but it's not bad.

I think there's an unwritten rule that all Phorum members MUST like Steven Delopoulos... Speaking of which, I sent a copy of that album to Jeffrey Overstreet, of the site Looking Closer, and I believe he intends to write a review of it. Should be interesting to hear what he thinks of it... anyone want to place any wagers?

Well, I didn't buy Delopolus' Me Died Blue.
Today, however, since class let out early and I spent an extraordinary amount of money on books for this semester, I thought I would treat myself to a CD (yes, and spend more money). So I walked into the nearby CD store, looking for a used CD (because that's all I could really afford). Well, I stumbled upon a used copy of Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life. I'm listening to it right now. Quite amazing. Quite groovy. Quite Wonderful (if you'll excuse the pun). It's a double album (I'm only 4/5 of the way throught the first one), and I got it for $13.64!! 2 discs for under 15 bucks. Can't beat it. Not to mention it *is* Stevie Wonder, so....
I'm happy. =D

Ah, what wisdom! What intelligence. Truly you must be a genius, DvChWi. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I shouldn't have let the fact that it was a bit impractical hinder me from trying this approach! Silly me. Alas, I turned it in today, and they had run out of copies of Songs... Sigh. So, alas I bought nothing. I was tempted to buy some Radiohead, U2 and Simon&Garfunkel, but I resisted and left the store with only thirteen bucks in store credit.

Bought Boy (U2) and The Essential Billy Joel (2 Discs).
I also got back 2 Sonicflood CDs.... Okay, the first album of theirs I did buy, but rarely listened to, though it's not too bad. The second one was a gift and I don't think I ever listened to it more than once. Maybe less.
I also got back 4 Audio Adrenaline CDs. Now, Some Kind of Zombie isn't too bad of an album, probably my favorite effort of theirs. They're not a frequent listen, but my friend had all six of these CDs for over a year, and I figured that at least the AA CDs should be stacked in the CD player if I ever was in the mood.

So, I ended up buying Hail to the Thief and Chutes Too Narrow. Twenty five bucks. Two good buys, but I wish I had had the money to buy them all. Sigh.

Time Out of Mind Phenomenal album. Dylan has made, like, 40 recordings, but this one is my second favorite. Very haunting; Daniel Lanois' production gives the whole thing a very intense, creepy, "holy moment" feel, and Dylan has never sounded better. And Revolver is my fave Beatles album.

I've been listening to Songs In The Key Of Life and I must say that is a very enjoyable album. So many of the songs from it I had heard before, but didn't know that they were Stevie Wonder's. An interesting anecdote about the album: when I got to the track "Pastime Paradise," I almost fell out of my chair. This is the same song as Coolio's "Gangster's Paradise," the song Weird Al used for his great song "Amish Paradise." I did not know this up until the song came up on the CD. Considering that Coolio apperently was copying off Stevie Wonder, its was awefully hypocritical of him to get on Weird Al for using the song again.
I've also listened to Time Out Of Mind. I'm going to listen to it a couple more times, but after my initial listen, it all tends to sound rather monotonous to me. And, yet again, his voice is bugging me. Maybe it will all make sense with with more listens.....

I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of blues music. It can get pretty monotonous, you know, with the similar chord structures and progressions, often sad outlooks or sad topics, and a lot of blues singers can't sing. I think blues is much better as a building block in music rather than the music just itself--especially if it's a whole album.
