Here is my latest order... I have decided to eschew record stores in leu of buying online.

"You Forgot It in People" - Broken Social Scene
"Espers" - Espers
"Now, More Than Ever" - Jim Guthrie
"Up in Flames" - Manitoba
"The Cansecos" - The Cansecos
"Castaways and Cutouts" - The Decemberists
"Summer Teeth" - Wilco
 "Fabulous Muscles" - Xiu Xiu

... I hope you all approve.

Other than Wilco, I haven't the foggiest clue who the hell those people are.

But that's the beauty of this board.

that's tragic...
Well, in the sense that it's tragic for anyone to be an atheist, yes. Keep in mind that this is only speculative.

From listening to her music, I think that is serves to bust my stereotype of atheists a great deal, if in fact that is what she is. I think most of us figure they're bitter people, constantly ranting again anyone stupid enough to actually have faith in anything. In reality, they can be just as soul-searching and spiritual as we can... being "spiritual" doesn't require believing in God, much less Jesus, which is why I don't automatically get excited whenever some popular artist suddenly gets all "spiritual" on me. Admittedly if you're a spiritual atheist it would require espousing some form of secular humanism or believing there's a god of sorts inside each person, even if you don't call it a god... which is obviously bogus no matter what you call it.

But in Vienna's case, heck, I find some of her music more spiritually uplifting than a lot of CCM.

I think that's a really good perspective murlough23

From what I've read listened to so far - she says quite a few "spiritual" terms that I don't usually hear from secular artists - or even many Christian artists.
I did mean it was tragic when she wouldn't be able to entertain the angels in Heaven b/c she wouldn't be there. And, I do wonder what great things God could've/can do in her and through her if she did know Jesus as Lord.

murlough, you should definitely check out the Cansecos, Broken Social Scene, and probably Espers while you're at it.

I'm having a hard time getting into Xiu Xiu in general ("A Promise" or "Fabulous Muscles").  There's something to them, but maybe I just haven't listened enough.  Definitely an acquired taste, but I'll give it another listen.

The Decemberists, The Cansecos, and Broken Social Scene...all very nice. I really need to check out Wilco. I've heard so much about them from here and elsewhere. And I've never actually been able to hear Xiu Xiu, but I've heard a lot about them too.

I mean, I just had to check out Summerteeth (or Summer Teeth or whatever) after hearing YHF. Just had to. I liked the sound of Xiu Xiu on a few songs I'd heard, although it was definitely aquired taste. BSS, The Cansecos, Manitoba, and Jim Guthrie are all Canadian artists, cause I kinda like the Canadian scene y'know. Smiley Good stuff.

The Beatle's debut album, Please Please Me. Not a bad album, and the Lennon/McCartney originals stand up better time wise than the covers they do on the album (it's half-and-half; seven covers, seven originals). That means one more album, and my Beatle's album collection is complete...they had With the Beatles at the store too, but I had to restrain myself....maybe Thursday or Friday...

I paid full price for Comp #1, and it was worth every penny  8-) .

It's not as good as CIWYW, but I like it about the same as End is Now, although they are two very different albums...Composition #1 is more like a compilation album of various solo or group within a group stuff the guys of LAS were doing, while End is Now and CIWYW are actual cohesive albums, where it feels everyone is involved equally in the album.

Incubus - "A Crow Left to the Murder"-      A great set of tunes  that blend typical incubus lyricism and interesting musical elements.  It dwells on the post rock intros and solos , lots of bends, and rather nifty guitar riffs...

I like that album quite a bit... though I think Morning View is their best (to be fair, I haven't heard S.C.I.E.N.C.E. yet).

With the Beatles, their second album. This album is the opposite of sophomore slump. They really grew as songwriters between this and their first--and both were released in the same year! Let me see some modern artist do that.  :P

Now, I must save up my money for Badly Drawn Boy's new album in April...

Great, underrated album from the DMB. A bit hard to get into, but very rewarding once you do. Well, at least if you skip "Halloween".
