Who in their right mind would give that album up to a used CD store? The same type of person who indirectly provided me with a cheap copy of The Joshua Tree, apparently. Maybe they really needed to eat. Or maybe it wasn't "Christian" enough for them. Or maybe they only liked the hits. Msot music listeners these days are not in their right minds anyhow. Amusing thing... the same day I found that used copy of The Joshua Tree, I happened across a used copy of Evanescence's Fallen for 9.99, and I was thinking, "Man, I bought it new for less than that!" |

POD's "Payable on Death"
Radiohead's "The Bends" (currently have "you do it to yourself" stuck in my head, and on the first track, U2 *owns* the keyboard), and
Nirvana, "Nirvana"
Really, what was the big deal about this Kobain dude and co? It sounds like they made their stuff in the back of a pickup, and they've only really got like 5 or 6 really good songs.

NP: "Now I Sing", Five O'Clock People I understand the context in which they came, but people still refer to Nirvana as the holy grail of all alt rock music, when I'll gladly say that some of their so-called imitators have done a much better job. Skraps |

Nirvana's Unplugged album has a few moments of surprising beauty. If they had lasted long enough to continue in that direction, then I might be more of a Nirvana fan.

Speaking of great bands... I can't believe I lost my copy of this CD. If anyone ever wants to buy me a copy... You'll be amused to know that their lead singer stumbled across my review of their album, as well as my Xanga. Maybe I'll ask him if their CD's are still for sale. I found my copy (after losing my old signed copy to my ex) real cheap in the clearance bin at a Christian bookstore. |

I'm not sure, but I think that particular disc has a cardboard sleeve. I don't know the technical name for those, but you know what I mean. In any event $20 for an EP is a lot of money, but it isn't an easy one to find either.

The punchhole/slit thingees are used by record companies to denote the albums that are promotional/demo/not-for-sale items, which are usually intended as review copies for music journalists, radio people, or retailers. Technically, if a store is selling you something like this they could get in big trouble, but I don't think anybody cares, really. Peace out, Andree |

Yeah, $20 is a lot for an EP, although if it doesn't have a slit and it's actually new, they go for a lot more. I think I just have to keep feeling bad about having the mp3s and hope they reissue it one of these days...I'm not sure what the likelihood of that is.

In keeping with tradition, I picked up a cheap used copy of U2's Achtung Baby this weekend. I also got used copies of Eric Champion's Transformation (one of my favorite albums when I was in college) and Mayfair Laundry's Scrub from a sotre whose employees had likely never heard of them, prompting them to slap bargain bin stickers on them. Their loss, my gain.
I also got copies of Fiction Plane's Everything Will Never Be OK and Lifehouse's Stanley Climbfall for friends, since the purpose of the trip was supposed to be shopping for other people. =D

Recently, I purchased:
Robert Randolph and the Family Band: Live at the Wetlands. I really love the CD, it's great to just hear them jamming...lyrics are the exception, not the norm on this album, but the instrumental work they do is very entertaining. "Ted's Jam" is my favorite...I may upload that song onto the Pub...
Jennifer Knapp-The Collection. For whatever reason I have never purchased a Knapp album before...perhaps because I didn't start buying music until about a year and half ago. Anyways, this album is amazing (coming from someone who hasn't heard the songs before). It has been getting the bulk of the time in my CD player recently. I also like the Demo-versions of her songs that they have on the 2nd CD, with just her and her guitar.

John Reuben-Professional Rapper
Jay-Z-Unplugged
Alicia Keys-The Diary of Alicia Keys
I've only been able to listen for a limited time to the three, but so far, the Jay-Z album is quite interesting, the John Reuben album, while no masterpiece, seems like it has the potential to be my favorite John Reu release yet, and the Alicia Keys album is probably the best album of the three. I love the piano...

Unplugged is actually very fresh. Love the re-working of songs.
I'm not sure if I should get Diary.... Songs in A Minor was overrated-ness of the highest order.
I finally got my U2 DVD, though. Sound-wise, the Coldplay DVD (which I love) sounds puny in comparison. Oh... and "Mysterious Ways" is included as a bonus track.

Yeah, TRu...I really like the Unplugged Jay...there are a couple songs that are weak (Takeover, for example), but for the most part, I love how the songs are done live. "Jigga What, Jigga Who" is FRESH, the way they re-work that...I was bobbing to that one. And I don't know who the girl is on "Heart of the City", but she KILLS it...
Also, would you say the Black album is worth buying? I'm thisclose to getting it...
Hmm...I never did buy Alicia Keys-Songs in A Minor, and the only song I heard off that was Woman's Worth and Fallin...but I do love "Diary"...

I recently received (for my birthday) Simon&Garfunkel's Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme and Rich Mullin's A Liturgy, a Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band.
The Rich Mullin's CD isn't my favorite album of his. I think The World as I Best Remember It Vol 1. is it, but it's not bad. I like Here in America, 52:10, The Color Green, Creed (my favorite song on the disc), and 78 Eatonwood Green. I'm not sure about Land of My Sojourn, I have to listen to it again, but I think I liked that one too. Definitely a keeper, with great lyrical work from one of the greatest and most underrated poets of our time.
The S&G album is mighty fine. Wow. Only one I don't like (there are couple of songs that don't groove well with me, but I can sit through them and not feel an urge to hit the skip button), and that's A Simple Desultory Phillippic.
Scarbarough Fair/Canticle--one of the most gorgeous songs I've ever heard. The melody and harmonies are great, of course, because it's S&G. The classic Feelin' Groovy is on here. Good little one minute fifty-three second song. Now, there are two very powerful and profound songs on this album. The first one being Patters. Paul takes lead and what Art does is amazing. He uses his voice to color the song, and what I mean by that is that every time he sings, it's for the purpose of reflecting the meaning of the songs. It's great. Beautiful. Wonderfully done. The other one is the last track. 7 O'Clock New/Silent Night. The first time I heard it, I had chills going up and down my spine. Basically, Paul and Art sing Silent Night while a news broadcast is being played, displaying the turmoil of the '60s at the time. Wow. Dated yes, but I can imagine back in 1966, that would've been extremely powerful. All in all, a great album. I think it is my favorite S&G one to date.

I didn't like Land of My Sojourn the first times I listened to it but it grew on me. it's one of my "play in the car" songs now.
