Why not just call it "Let's Hear It for Purity!"?

Because I don't think that's the intent of that title. Without knowing anything else about the album, I would presume it to be a set of songs that discuss both indulgence and restraint. It may also be a play on the expected "Rock & Roll" because that's not a style of music that Reuben makes.

Not sure. I might've said the youth group on his first album, but I couldn't easily identify one nowadays. His own age group (folks in their 20's & 30's) could probably relate most easily.

I must be getting old. I spend way more money back cataloging than I do on new music anymore.

They had three Iona albums in there, too. I picked them up and was about to buy them, but I put them back at the last minute. What's their best album? I may go back and pick it up if it's one of the three.

Now those, I'm just happy that they showed up in a store at all!

Beyond These Shores is my personal favorite. I like the way it all ties together thematically, and the intimacy of it.

Journey into the Morn is probably the most accessible to new fans.

Open Sky might be their most musically accomplished.

All three are five-star efforts in my book.

I've rescued Iona albums I already owned from bargain bins for more than that, and held onto them as potential gifts for people as a carrot to get them into the band. A buck a piece is a steal - I'd even recommend giving an album a try for that price if I was iffy about a band.

Birthday present from my wife. Now I get to watch the DVD and see if the multimedia aspect of this project is worth my time at all.

Picked up those three tonight! I'll give them a listen soon.

I also picked these up from the one dollar bin:
So The Say - Antidote For Irony
Moving Units - Dangerous Dreams
Lamb - Lamb
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold & Platinum
Matthew Good Band - Beautiful Midnight
Don Henley - The End of The Innocence
Very Emergency - The Getaway

I've never listened to So They Say, Moving Units, or Lamb before. I Just thought I'd give them a shot.

Very Emergency is the worst band I've ever seen play, so I bought their CD just so I wouldn't forget how awful they were.  :P

Well that stinks! Hopefully they'll have one near you soon.

Started listening to this one today. I've only listened to the first few tracks so far. I'm not sure what I was expecting from Iona, except that they had some major Celtic influence, but I had no idea they were such proficient musicians!. "Woven Cord" blew me away!

I just got Living Sacrifice - The Infinite Order a few days before the release date! Thanks Zambooie!

Also just got these:
As Cities Burn - Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest
Explosions In The Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place
Inked In Blood - Lay Waste The Poets

Oh man, I had no idea they'd hook you that fast. Joanne hasn't even started singing yet! The second track, "Wave After Wave", is one of my all-time favorites. (It's also worth noting that the drummer does double duty as the violin player.) Open Sky is very close to the top of my "Best of the 2000's" List that I'm going to publish the final segment of this weekend.

If it's the long, suit-like instrumental passages that get your attention, you're likely to love "Encircling" and "Heaven's Bright Sun" from Journey into the Morn, and "Bird of Heaven" from Beyond These Shores. Pay careful attention to BTS; there's a bit of theme and variation that recurs over the course of several instrumental tracks on that one.

And you can probably figure out which track on BTS is my personal favorite just by looking at the tracklisting.

I listened to the first three tracks on my way home from work. Hopefully I'll get a chance to finish the album soon. Her voice is beautiful and "Wave After Wave" is a very good song.

I love epic instrumentals so I'll be sure to check those out. Although her voice is beautiful, it may be the instrumentals that I end up preferring from this band if they're all as good as "Woven Cord".

I would say that most of the pure instrumentals on BTS are shorter, interlude-type tracks. However, a lot of Iona's longer songs have just small snippets of lyrics and are still mostly instrumental ("Castlerigg" is a good example - 9-minute song split into roughly 3 sections, with the only lyrics in the 2nd section), so there's plenty of both aspects to enjoy.

JITM is also a mostly vocal record. "The Search" and "Heaven's Bright Sun" are the only true instrumental tracks, but I often remember the instrumental passages of "Encircling" more readily than the vocal ones.

The Paper Raincoat - s/t

Alex Wong's band (I know him from the guest vocal on Vienna Teng's "Antebellum" and his production work on the album it came from, as well as an opening act on her tour last year). Bought it on iTunes since a physical disc doesn't seem to exist or might only be sold at their shows.

Also, cashing in on an Amazon gift certificate I got for my birthday:

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
Arcade Fire - Funeral
fun. - Aim & Ignite
Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
Plumb - Blink
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!

so far I am not finding the gospel style to my taste at all. I had heard Wade in the Water on live bootlegs a couple years ago and loved it, but the studio recording...not so much. oh well.

I've never really listened to either of these bands, but I've heard good things. Two bucks each...I figured they're worth a shot.

I like it.  Hard to describe but it combines good elements of indie pop and experimental (but you'd expect that from these two guys)
