"All Is Full of Love" is one of my least favorite songs from that album (and it's still a good song). The first four on Homogenic are the powerhouses for me. It reminds me of how The Joshua Tree is good all the way through, but the first four tracks kind of overshadow everything else for me. "Bachelorette" is one of my Top 5 Bjork songs. And I've gushed about its music video elsewhere.
Yeah, I've always thought "All Is Full of Love" was a decent enough song, although it doesn't blow me away or anything. Hopefully I'll get a chance to give the album a good listen or two tomorrow at work and report back with my initial thoughts about it.

Put me in the camp that doesn't vastly underrate "All Is Full of Love", and it's one of her very best videos as well.

I got a chance to listen to Homogenic today and I very much enjoyed the album. I agree that the best tracks are the first four on the album. I didn't get to listen to it enough to comment on it much more than that, but it looks like the album will be getting more playing time in the future.

That's probably a pretty sizeable camp, given that it was the lead track on her greatest hits album; then again, the single version had a different mix, which I actually like a bit more. (Bjork going untethered by rhythm for too long one of my chief complaints about her, which explains why most of Medulla drives me up the wall - glad I gave her a second chance after mistakenly starting with that one.)

Children 18:3: Rain's a Comin'
I actually like this one better than their self-titled. I think they pulled off the alternate vocals more smoothly this time, and instrumentally they sound more crisp.

I went up to Cincinnati to go to one of my favorite used music stores today. I bought about 30 cd's (some were single's or record label compilations) for 25 cents each. I bought about 20 cd's for a dollar each and a couple for $2.50 each. Here's some of the one's I got that I thought might be of some interest here:
For $2.50: Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot TV on the Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain
For $1: Ryan Adams - Love Is Hell Dashboard Confessional - A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar Bjork - Telegram Bjork - Debut Nirvana - Nevermind Chronic Future - Lines In My Face Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique Jets To Brazil - Perfecting Loneliness Counting Crows - Films About Ghosts: The Best of... Helmet - Meantime Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City Depeche Mode - Exciter Two Tongues - Two Tongues Faithless - Reverence
25 cents: Steven Curtis Chapman - The Great Adventure Phillips. Craig & Dean - Favorite Live Songs of All Natalie Imbruglia - Left of The Middle Various - Revival Generation: I Could Sing of Your Love Forever Melee - Devils & Angels Guardian - Buzz According To John - A2J Fair To Midland - The Drawn and Quartered EP and probably my favorite find of the day, Further Seems Forever & Recess Theory out of print split EP - From The 27th State
So, what should I listen to first?

It's the first time I'd been there in over a year, so I figured I'd find some good stuff, but I had no idea I would find as much as I did. I've already heard the TV on The Radio and Nirvana albums, so I'm thinking I may start with Wilco. I've read so many positive things about Yankee Hotel Foxtrot over the years, I'm anxious to listen to it.

Yeah, I think it's about the third best album of the 00s (that I've heard, obviously), but to better manage your expectations, I give you murlough's review (which definitely qualifies as a bit of a low outlier).

Well, I guess I won't be alone if I don't love the album as much as everyone else does. It's refreshing to read a review like that for this album, because I've only heard 3 or 4 Wilco songs before, and all of them left me with a similar apathetic feeling towards them. I'm also a bit concerned that I'll be missing out on whatever originality this album brought at the time of it's release, considering alt-country has pretty much exploded since then. Either way, I'm excited to hear it.

It was a bit presumptuous; I was brand new to Wilco, everyone else seemed to be raving about it, and I just didn't understand the context, much like when I first listened to Kid A. I'm still not jump-up-and-down excited with YHF, but I've come to like it, even love a few songs, and I don't regret buying a copy (used, from Wanderer). I'm the odd Wilco fan who actually thinks Sky Blue Sky is pretty cool. I kind of enjoy being the dissenter on that one.

I would be the somewhat less rare Wilco fan that defends Sky Blue Sky while thinking some of their earlier work was more accomplished. Wilco (The Album) may actually be more controversial among Wilco fans than even SBS anymore, though.

True. The self-titled was accessible to me at first (more so than SBS), but didn't have a whole lot of staying power outside of a few songs. I liked Jeff-Tweedy's comments about the "dad-rock" criticism. "My dad listens to Merzbow. Does that make it dad-rock?"

I listened to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot once through this morning. It's definitely an excellent album. It didn't change my life or anything, but I'm liking it quite a bit. Obviously, one listen isn't enough to form a whole lot of opinions about it, but it's one I'll definitely come back to for more listens after I get through some of the other music I just bought.
I'm currently listening to Paul's Boutique, which is also an excellent album. "5-Piece Chicken Dinner" just came out of nowhere and made me chuckle a bit.

Finally picked up a copy of The Suburbs, after trying and failing to find it in several stores during our trip. Even the local Target back down here didn't have it despite their website saying otherwise. Best Buy did. I actually realized in the end that it wasn't the "immediate buy" that I figured it'd be when I first heard it, but I also wanted to be sure I was rating it based on a clean copy, since I wasn't sure if the mushy texture of some of it was intentional when I downloaded the rip from the vinyl. It does sound a little clearer now, but the overall sound/style of this record still doesn't excite me as much as the better parts of past Arcade Fire records.

Yeah, I'm not sure the guy who did the vinyl rip really knew what he was doing. I've heard a lot better vinyl rips than that anyway. Really, though, for a digital copy that I'd put on my iPod, I like to just have it ripped from a digital source (assuming they didn't muck up the CD). I prefer vinyl at home spinning the old fashioned way.
As for the album, it grew on me quite a bit, but I'm not calling "masterpiece" on this one. I appreciate the Arcade Fire for really making an album album, though. I think it's about on par with Neon Bible, below Funeral.
Derek Webb apparently really, really loves it. He's been tweeting about it constantly.

As for the album, it grew on me quite a bit, but I'm not calling "masterpiece" on this one. Good to have some solidarity on that one. It makes me feel better about preparing to say in my review that the dude who declared it better than OK Computer was off his rocker. I appreciate the Arcade Fire for really making an album album, though. I like that it has a theme and feels like the songs belong together. Unfortunately, they belong together in the sense that they are a tirade on something that many other musicians have already gone into a tirade over (basically, sterile suburban life. Yeah, we get that rampant capitalism sucks away your soul and produces apathetic kids. Tell us some stuff we don't know.) Derek Webb apparently really, really loves it. He's been tweeting about it constantly. I know from past experience that his liking something doesn't always mean I'll feel the same.
