The title is pretty self explanatory. If I were to buy a few Beatles albums, which albums would they be, and why? Write your answer in a paragraph of at least 100 words, double spaced. Please turn in by tommorrow morning.

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:
Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.
Chuck Norris can divide by zero.
Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

Let me step in here a minute before afroboy shows up and say that my personal favorite is Revolver. The White Album and Abbey Road are both assortments of great songs and filler songs, and Sgt. Pepper is a great but overrated album. I can't say anything about the others, though I've been wanting to hear Rubber Soul for quite some time now...

I'll vote for "Revolver" myself as well. "Sgt. Pepper's" is also amazing for its time (particularly the level of production put into it), but it hasn't aged as well as "Revolver". Their self-titled "White Album" has its share of filler, but its best songs easily stand beside the best of their work on other albums . . . it just gets highly indulgent at times. "Abbey Road" is put together in a very sharp way, so I really love that one.
"Rubber Soul" is alright...it at least marked a turning point for the band.

In fact, two of my Top 5 Beatles songs come from White. The list, in case you're wondering, is... "Here Comes the Sun" (Abbey Road) "Taxman" (Revolver) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (White) "Helter Skelter" (White) "Eleanor Rigby" (Revolver) Notice that three of my five favorite Beatles songs were George Harrison compositions...

"Tomorrow Never Knows" (Revolver) "Strawberry Fields Forever" (Magical Mystery, I think) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (White) "Eleanor Rigby" (Revolver) "Something" (Abbey Road)
I think this would be my list. I also really like the Indian music experimentation on "Revolver" and "Sgt. Pepper's", but not enough to put it here.

Geez, Dv. That's a hard choice.
Everyone here has made pretty good picks of their favorite Beatles albums.
My favorites are Sgt. Pepper, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, Revolver, White, and Let it Be in that order. I also tend to play Magical Mystery tour a lot, because it has Strawberry Fields Forever on it. My ultime favorite song, as I've mentioned before.
I think Sgt. Pepper contains a lot of good songs. Fixing a Hole, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Within You Without You, and a A Day in the Life are wonderful. Rubber Soul is very pretty with songs like Norwegian Wood, In My Life, Wait, Michelle, Girl, and I'm Looking Through You. Abbey Road has Here Comes the Sun, Come Together, Because, You Never Give Me Your Money, and the segued tracks on what was Side 2 of the album. Very cool, also. Revolver was very experimental. Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Love You To and Tomorrow Never Knows as highlights. White's got several good ones and Let it Be, although not my favorite of favorites, I've become more fond of it, because it's just fun. And Let it Be, the album version, is on there.
Pepper, RubberSoul, Abbey and Revolver would be good starts. My first Beatles CD was One, actually. That's a nice one that spans their career, but I prefer the albums much more, myself.
Oh yeah, I'll end with my own Top 5 Beatles Song List:
"Strawberry Fields Forever" (Single, flip side: Penny Lane; considered by many the best rock single ever. Also found on Magical Myster Tour) "In My Life" (Rubber Soul) "Let it Be" (Album version Let it Be) "Eleanor Rigby" (Revolver) "Fixing a Hole" (Sgt. Pepper)
(It's so hard to pick five though! Cruel, cruel world..)

Actually, now that I think about it, the Beatles were definitely a singles band rather than an album band, so One might not be a bad place to start. I don't recall exactly what songs are on there, but it's certainly loaded with classics. Afro, I'm curious... three of my good friends are huge Beatles fans, and all three of them hate "Blue Jay Way." I, on the other hand, think it's a fantastic song. You like it?

Hey, it's been awhile since I've listened to Blue Jay Way, and I finally got around to listening to it. I think it will probably mean that I'll play MMT even more than I do. I think it's a very cool song. I love the voice effects. It's in the vein of what many would call the Beatles' "drug music". The drums, sound effects, and everything. George is my second-favorite Beatle. I love his stuff. He was definitely a quiet genius. Verdict: Blue Jay Way is a fine song.
Btw, I agree. I don't think the Beatles were necessarily good at making "albums" even though they are credited with the first rock concept album. Although I think that's a bit of a fallacy, I do believe Sgt. Pepper was a very important album in rock history. Anyway, if you look at how many of the albums are put together, you will see that the song order alternates between John songs and Paul songs, with two George songs (usually; Revolver has 3 Harrisongs while Sgt. Pepper has 1) stuck in somewhere. And one song will be sung by Ringo (and on Abbey Road, the one song Ringo sang on, he actually wrote: Octupus' Garden). As I said, One has many fine songs which span their career, though I would argue not necessarily their best work. In essence, I agree with Josh. They focused on individual songs rather than albums. Albums for the Beatles were just a collection of their most recent work.
