Ok, so what is everyone's favorote series? A series (at least as I define it) is a, well, series of books that all have common characters, themes, and settings, and usually common authors. Left Behind and Harry Potter are two examples of book serieses (what's the plural of series, anyway?)

As you can probably guess, mine is Lord of the Rings ^_^. I imagine many of you will agree with me here. To make it less homogenous, here's my runners-up:
Sherlock Holmes
The Star Wars X-Wing series

the plural of 'series' is 'series' and takes a plural verb.
e.g. my favorite series is Lord of the Rings. other series I enjoy are The Zion Chronicles, The Zion Covenant, and  The Shiloh Legacy.

hmm...is that all? I had the impression that I like series of books a lot. when I was younger, I liked Nancy Drew, The Babysitter's Club, the newer Hardy Boys, Sweet Valley Twins, Anne of Green Gables, the Janette Oke books, The Australian Destiny series by Sandy Dengler, various historical fiction series by Marian Wells, Gilbert Morris, Michael Phillips, Judith Pella, etc...

Mine would probably have to be the Chronicles of Narnia. Harry Potter comes in at a close second. and I like the Princess Diaries series, too. even if people make fun of me for it.

Harry Potter would have to be my favorite series.  I don't care if people think they are evil, they are just plain fun to read.

i LOVE Brian Jaques' "Redwall" series. think watership-down-style. they're brilliant, beautiful, adventurous, and i'm still buying them whenever a ne wone comes out. i highly recommend. start with "mossflower."

I thought it would be that, but serieses sounds more Gollum-like ^_^

Zion Chronicles, Zion Covenant, and Shiloh Legacy? Aren't those series written by Brodie and Brock Thoene? They're great writers.

The Hardy Boys were awesome when I was younger. I guess the fact that I'm older doesn't make them any less awesome, but I don't read them any more.

I think Mark has read most of those. Boo hur, where be my ladle?

Yeah, I've read most of the Redwall series, although I gave up reading them when they started getting repetitive. My favorite is, of course, Martin the Warrior. That's the only one I've reread... and I absolutely love it! And that's where the "boo hur, where be my ladel" quote comes from too...

and, believe it or not, I used to read all the "girlie" series when I was a kid... like Nancy Drew... I also liked the Boxcar Children series, if anyone's heard of those. But those also got old and repetitive. I think for the series to remain good, it needs to stop before too long (cough cough... Left Behind cough cough)... haha

Has anyone heard of the His Dark Materials series? I guess it's more of a trilogy now that I think about it... I read the first two and decided not to read the last one because it got too evil, but I think now I would be old enough to discern better... but they were quite well written, and apparently the series is quite the rave in Europe.

my 3rd/4th/5th grade teacher read us the first Boxcar Children book and I read some of the others. she also introduced us to the Borrowers and the Black Stallion, and I read the other books in the series.

yep. actually her name is Bodie, not Brodie, but yeah.
I haven't gotten into their latest series, the Jerusalem Legacy or whatever it is called. seems like the style is different and the characters have lost...something...I don't know what.

I read the first Princess Diaries book and couldn't put it down but haven't picked up any of the others yet.

I've heard of the Princess Diaries, but haven't read any of them...

If you want a great Thoene book that SHOULD be a series but (to the best of my knowledge) is not, check out Twilight of Courage; it's one if the best WWII books I've read. Very high quality.

I'm a big fan of all Star Wars fiction, too...looking at my shelf (I have a whole shelf devoted to it  :embarass:), a quick count shows 33 books in various series...

When I was a young lad, I also read the Sigmund Brouwer (or however you mutilate his last name) series Wings of Light. Or Wings of an Angel. Or something. Obviously, it made a huge impact on me ;]. Anyway, that was pretty good, except he had the bad habit of cutting and pasting descriptive text between his books. I have a fairly good memory (hah, after forgetting the Bodie thing and the name of the series :P), but after 12 or so books, it gets only slightly less than blindingly obvious that he's reusing a lot of his text  blink

I used to enjoy those, as well, but the Baby-Sitters Club was just pure genius compared to anything else. At least that's what I thought then.

Lord of the Rings... finally finished it!

Sharon Shinn's series about angels (the series itself doesn't really have a name, but you should all read Jovah's Angel. An excellent novel!)

Harr Potter is cool, too.

I enjoy the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers immensely, but sadly my German teacher borrowed the books my freshman year and hasn't gotten them back to me yet...

Frankly, I'm surprised you enjoyed this series--it doesn't seem much like your style. Always with the surprises Smiley

Honestly, I didn't really enjoy Xenocide, and even the last half of Speaker for the Dead was less than I had hoped. Ender's Game was quite good, though, so it does have some redeemable features.

He's written a few other series as well, and they all seem to have the characteristic of dragging on too long and getting far too strange.

Orson Scott Card definitely has some strange ideas sometimes. But I like that about him. I enjoyed one of his other series... can't remember the name of the top of my head. I hear that he is writing the story for a trilogy of video games right now. I can't wait. A good story is a very important part of a great game, and having a famous fantasy/sci-fi author write the the story could make these games great.

Just wondering, and not to sound harsh, how in the world can you know what his style is? Have you been spying on my friend?   J/k.  Yeah, I liked that series too.

No, I haven't said much about you that you haven't seen, accept for mentioning the fact that you don't like 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."  Maybe Vlad is judging you by that.

I'd like to submit another favorite series: The Honor Harrington Series. Even tho I haven't read it all yet. I just finished the 7th book, "In Enemy Hands", and it was awesome!

Its by David Weber. Its a sci-fi story about an extroardinary woman named (you guessed it!) Honor Harrington! She is an officer in the Royal Manticoran Space Navy, which is enbattled with the People's Republic of Haven.
