Haven't heard Arthur's other work, but I'd very much like to, eventually. Not familiar with Julie Miller, either, though I've heard good things about her...

I'm interested in checking out his other stuff, as well. Redemption's Son blows me away every time I listen to it. "You've Been Loved" is the album highlight for me.

Hah, I was going to post a thread asking the same thing. I was doing some reading on Joseph Arthur, and I found out that he got rid of his old producer for Redemption's Son. So, that could make for a change in sound. Too bad they don't play stuff like his on the radio, or we might be able to hear some of the older tunes. I hate modern radio....

A Rebel radio station? Would be cool... so are you volunteering to set that up? So, the rest of you... favorite track(s) from Redemption's Son? My favorite is probably "Honey and the Moon," though I also love "Dear Lord," "Favorite Girl," and the title cut. Any songs you don't care for? Any that you don't understand?

I didn't enjoy "Nation of Slaves" when I first heard it but it's been growing on me with each listen. "Let's Embrace", "Honey and the Moon", and "September Baby" are all other favorites of mine. "Permission" doesn't really float my boat, though the words are pretty cool.

"Permission" is my least favorite track on the album, hands down. I wouldn't have minded if Arthur had left off that one and/or "Let's Embrace," though the latter is pretty fun.

My favorite song so far is "Dear Lord." I just love the overall feeling and movement it has.

I normally don't go for the country sort of sound and twangy vocals but I can't help but like their music...some of it I liked right away and most of the other stuff grew on me.

ev.body i wanted to re-active this thread BECAUSE i actually bought all three of joseph arthur's cds (big weekend sale at this store - whoohoo!) about a week ago and wanted to tell ya what i thought: in a word, they're AMAZING. all of them. i first bought redemption's son, and liked it so much (esp. the song 'favorite girl' is so beautiful..) i went back the next day to get the others. i can't even pick a favorite. the lyrics are so good, too. some of the ones in 'come to where i'm from' are kinda disturbing, but always poetic and honest... anyway, i can't even decide how one would describe joseph arthur... how do you guys describe him? he's kinda beyond words in my opinion, like over the rhine... experiments with a lot of different sounds... kinda melodic rock, i think? hmm but for those of you who have mentioned redemption's son all along... thanks and seriously do not miss out on the other two cds. i'm not kidding; i'm addicted. - kelli
