And at least "Losing My Religion" got runner-up status... And that's really good considering I've only heard about five REM songs... I know, I know, I'm pathetic. I've already thought of about ten I forgot about. I was mainly going by the criteria of songs I personally wouldn't have done a thing different on-and a bunch of personal favorites do have things that I would change about them, small, minor, trival things and I don't even know what I'm talking about. And I did have "One" and "Streets" on there, interestingly enough! But then I realized it was becoming a U2 list, so I went with my gut feeling on which ones to keep. (But "One" is actually my favorite song in the world, at least at the moment.) Anyway... I dig your list as well. (Though I haven't heard the Sexsmith, OTR, or all of the REM tunes.) "Here Comes the Sun" is one of those ten or so I just plain didn't think of, and I'm much too lazy to edit. =D |

I can't think of many changes I'd make to my songs... maybe the drums on "The World Can Wait." "Beautiful Day" could possibly use a slightly more "live" mix, but now I'm picking nits.

I'm probably being biased about "Beautiful Day" because I think I've heard it a tad too much - due to my own overplaying and that of my mom and brother. The same could be said of the entire album, though I haven't lost any love for it and it's #2 on my all-time favorite list... I think I just need to give it a break. But I supose "Beautiful Day" is another one of those I forgot (along with "New York.")

My list would've contained all Beatles songs. Strawberry Fields Forever topping the list.  Ticket to Ride...a good one...and Lennon's Imagine...great... Sorry, U2 fans, but U2 is 2nd in my opinion, with the Beatles on top on an unreachable plateau. Hee hee. But all that aside, I love One and With or Without You and Beautiful Day and...well, the list goes on. --MC PS: No Bob Marley songs??? Could You Be Loved, Jammin', I Shot the Sherriff....sigh. I concur, DV. "Fields" just isn't as engaging as "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Penny Lane," "Taxman," etc. etc. etc.
And Sam Phillips is, of course, the fifth Beatle, so everyone check her music out.

Wow. Rarely do I come acros people who aren't big fans of SFF. As much as I love Here Comes the Sun and Taxman and sometimes Penny Lane, SFF for me outdoes them all. Many people do consider the SFF/PL single one of the best singles ever. SFF is just wonderful. The lyrics are good and solid. The ochestration (George Martin's doing) is simply beautiful. I love to listen to how songs are arranged, and he did a really good job. I suppose the problem with a "perfect" song is that we'll never be able to agree on it. The fact is what we thing of as perfect or close to perfect or just good songs has to do with our tastes. For every song I don't necessarily, there's probably at least one person who simply loves it. Because songs speak to us different. The best way I can explain my love of Strawberry Fields Forever is that it reaches me like no other song ever has. =D 'Sides, with the Beatles, it's hard to pick their best song.
