Now here's an interesting read, from everybody's favorite resident of Erwin, Tennessee: http://www.epinions.com/content_3380453508Can't say that I agree with you much, Jess, though your #1 song is, of course, spot on. And at least "Losing My Religion" got runner-up status... Here's how I would have picked 'em: 15. Ron Sexsmith- "Cheap Hotel" 14. Peter Gabriel- "Mercy Street" 13. REM- "E-Bow the Letter" 12. U2- "Running to Stand Still" 11. Over the Rhine- "Little Blue River" 10. U2- "One" 9. Peter Gabriel- "In Your Eyes" 8. REM- "Saturn Return" 7. The Beatles- "Here Comes the Sun" 6. U2- "Where the Streets Have No Name" 5. REM- "Losing My Religion" 4. Over the Rhine- "The World Can Wait" 3. Jeff Buckley- "Hallelujah" 2. U2- "Beautiful Day" 1. U2- "With or Without You" So... how 'bout them apples?

And at least "Losing My Religion" got runner-up status... And that's really good considering I've only heard about five REM songs... I know, I know, I'm pathetic. I've already thought of about ten I forgot about. I was mainly going by the criteria of songs I personally wouldn't have done a thing different on-and a bunch of personal favorites do have things that I would change about them, small, minor, trival things and I don't even know what I'm talking about. And I did have "One" and "Streets" on there, interestingly enough! But then I realized it was becoming a U2 list, so I went with my gut feeling on which ones to keep. (But "One" is actually my favorite song in the world, at least at the moment.) Anyway... I dig your list as well. (Though I haven't heard the Sexsmith, OTR, or all of the REM tunes.) "Here Comes the Sun" is one of those ten or so I just plain didn't think of, and I'm much too lazy to edit. =D

I can't think of many changes I'd make to my songs... maybe the drums on "The World Can Wait." "Beautiful Day" could possibly use a slightly more "live" mix, but now I'm picking nits.

I'm probably being biased about "Beautiful Day" because I think I've heard it a tad too much - due to my own overplaying and that of my mom and brother. The same could be said of the entire album, though I haven't lost any love for it and it's #2 on my all-time favorite list... I think I just need to give it a break. But I supose "Beautiful Day" is another one of those I forgot (along with "New York.")

Truth be told, I've overplayed that album, as well, but it's still #2 in my book. (We have SO much in common...).

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:
Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.
Chuck Norris can divide by zero.
Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

My list would've contained all Beatles songs. Strawberry Fields Forever topping the list. Ticket to Ride...a good one...and Lennon's Imagine...great... Sorry, U2 fans, but U2 is 2nd in my opinion, with the Beatles on top on an unreachable plateau. Hee hee. But all that aside, I love One and With or Without You and Beautiful Day and...well, the list goes on. --MC PS: No Bob Marley songs??? Could You Be Loved, Jammin', I Shot the Sherriff....sigh. No taste.

Today I was not blinded, crippled and dipped in boiling silver to make a graven image of the spiritual condition to which I naturally tend. So it was a good day.

My list would've contained all Beatles songs. Strawberry Fields Forever topping the list. There's another one that just plain slipped my mind. And U2 are the Beatles reincarnated. So it's all the same. =D

I don't really like "Strawberry Fields Forever." Am I missing something about it? I think that the Beatles had much better songs than that, myself.

I concur, DV. "Fields" just isn't as engaging as "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Penny Lane," "Taxman," etc. etc. etc.
And Sam Phillips is, of course, the fifth Beatle, so everyone check her music out.

Forget it - no way I can whittle down the lsit to 15. I don't think any song is perfect, but here are some I came up with that are darn close and are very near and dear to my heart... more or less my personal faves, slightly weighted towards the present as is my usual bias:
"Like a Child", Jars of Clay "Murlough Bay", Iona "Supernatural", dc Talk "Wave After Wave", Iona "Overjoyed", Jars of Clay "Maybe Tomorrow", Nouveaux "Portrait of an Apology", Jars of Clay "I'll See You", Pax217 "Worlds Apart", Jars of Clay "Kiss Me", Sixpence None the Richer "If Only...", Nouveaux "Dizzy", Sixpence None the Richer "Sorry", Five O'Clock People "Melody of You", Sixpence None the Richer "In the End", Linkin Park "Spin", Lifehouse "Jesus Freak", dc Talk "Enchanted", Chasing Furies "Against the Grain", Earthsuit "See the Glory", Steven Curtis Chapman "Hands in the Air", The Waiting "Bring Me to Life", Evanescence feat. Paul McCoy "Lord of the Dance", Steven Curtis Chapman "Thief", Third Day "Wishes", Out of the Grey "The Finish Line", Steve Taylor "Clocks", Coldplay "Open Sky", Iona "Silence", Jars of Clay "The World Can Wait", Over the Rhine "Hanging by a Moment", Lifehouse "The Tower", Vienna Teng "Discotheque", U2 "Company Car", Switchfoot "Wait for the Sun", PfR "La La Land", All Star United "I'll Carry You", Rebecca St. James "Butterfly", Seven Day Jesus "Lift Me Up", The Benjamin Gate "To the Tune of 5,000 Screaming Children", The Juliana Theory "Collide", Jars of Clay "My Refuge", SonicFlood "Somewhere North", Caedmon's Call "Spinnin' Round", PfR "Lost the Plot", Newsboys "Less Like Scars", Sara Groves

You all will have to excuse Murlough, here; he inadvertently left "Little Blue River" off his list.

Wow. Rarely do I come acros people who aren't big fans of SFF. As much as I love Here Comes the Sun and Taxman and sometimes Penny Lane, SFF for me outdoes them all. Many people do consider the SFF/PL single one of the best singles ever. SFF is just wonderful. The lyrics are good and solid. The ochestration (George Martin's doing) is simply beautiful. I love to listen to how songs are arranged, and he did a really good job. I suppose the problem with a "perfect" song is that we'll never be able to agree on it. The fact is what we thing of as perfect or close to perfect or just good songs has to do with our tastes. For every song I don't necessarily, there's probably at least one person who simply loves it. Because songs speak to us different. The best way I can explain my love of Strawberry Fields Forever is that it reaches me like no other song ever has. =D 'Sides, with the Beatles, it's hard to pick their best song. They had so many good ones. In My Life for example... --MC B)

Just for clarafication, my list is ***not*** my all-time favorites list. They'd all be on that said list, but not in that order at all. "One" happens to be my favorite song.
