I stumbled across his music surfing. Is he just a random guy writing about God? Is he a christian? Has anyone heard of him? It seems he was popular in Canada and london...

Oh, yeah, Sexsmith is cool. Very underappreciated singer/songwriter. (And yeah, I think he IS Canadian).

His last album, Cobblestone Runway, was ruined by one uber-annoying, narrow-minded song called "God Loves Everyone," but his 2001 album, Blue Boy, is great. It still finds its way into my CD changer from time to time. And "Cheap Hotel" is one of my favorite songs of all time.

AMG reports that Mr. Sexsmith's new album comes out on April 6. I'll have to investigate that one.

I just found this from Ron's Bio:

Quote
Stepping off that path, the almost hymn-like "God Loves Everyone" was written as Ron's response to the shocking 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student. "The crime itself was horrible enough," says Sexsmith, "but I remember reading about the trial, where there were these folks standing outside with signs saying, 'God hates fags' or "Burn in hell fags.' I couldn't believe that people could actually have those kinds of thoughts. That's where the song started for me. From there, I got in to just trying to write a song about unconditional love, I guess."

Yeah, Ron's heart is in the right place, but that song demonstrates a rather skewed view of the world.
