From @U2.com: Huge news that Steve Lillywhite is coming in to take over production of U2's new album. Unmentioned in the Billboard article is the fact that they've already spent about a year working with veteran rock producer Chris Thomas, whose credits include The Sex Pistols, The Pretenders, Pete Townshend, and others. Is all that work now being tossed out? What's this mean for getting a new album out in 2004?

It seems odd to toss out an entire year of studio work. If they did, though, these sessions would become the Holy Grail of unreleased material.

I kinda doubt they'll toss it out, actually-- they've seemed very pleased with the material so far, and I don't know why they'd suddenly decide they don't like it anymore. Still, I am worried that this will push the release date back even farther. But let's look on the bright side-- at least Lillywhite is working with the band again. He's a pretty good producer, I think...

Yeah, Lillywhite is a good producer, but I much prefer the Eno-era.

Yeah, Lillywhite is a good producer, but I much prefer the Eno-era. Eno and Lanois have been at the helm of the band's three best albums. They're a great team, although sometimes Lanois is a bit too intrusive for my tastes.

RollingStone.com reports:
U2 have recorded "Tough," a tribute to singer Bono's father who passed away in 2001, for their tenth album, which they hope to finish this summer for a fall release. Among the other new tracks to be featured on the follow-up to 2000's Grammy-winning All That You Can't Leave Behind is "Full Metal Jacket," which Bono describes as "the mother of all rock tunes."
The band began recording in Dublin last year with producer Chris Thomas (Sex Pistols, Paul McCartney); in February, Steve Lillywhite, who recorded U2's early records, took over.
"The record is so good that it won't even matter that people are sick of U2," Bono added. "It's driven by a guitar player who's sick of the sight of me shaking hands with dodgy politicians."
U2 plan to kick off a world tour in Miami in March 2005.

Anyone see this? It's better than Solar. Looks like November 22nd is supposedly the firm release date with a new single coming in October. Can't freakin' wait!

I'd be fine with Vertigo, if indeed that is the album's title. Despite its Hitchcock-ish connotation, it's an intriguing and catchy name for a U2 album.
I approve.

Another possible title has surfaced, although it appears it was being considered much earlier in the year. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

I'd MUCH rather have Vertigo. That other one is unique, but it's not exactly catchy, is it? And besides, it reminds me too much of the subtitle to Dr. Strangelove, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

So, if this gets released online, we don't get a full, completed U2 album? That stinks. Rushing these things is never a good idea.

1. CD 2. limited edition CD/DVD in clear tray 3. vinyl 4. limited edition deluxe box (CD & DVD) with 48-page booklet
Wowsers... um, I think I'll go with the last one...

I'll probably go with #2. Smart move since DVD's aren't quite as easy to copy or download.

Apparently, the forty-eight page booklet is comprised completely of pictures from the French photo shoot, which was so long, the band members all fell asleep, allowing a thief to snag the missing copy.

Vertigo is not listed in the Universal Music Group commerce database. That's a special site that retailers can enter to place their orders, download publicity materials, and check on release dates.

Another rumored album title is floating around: Hanover Quay. Maybe they've been listening to The Fiery Furnaces' "Quay Cur." I mean, how many songs and/or album titles have Quay in it? Oh, and I don't like that title...naming CD's after a recording studio isn't all that new of an idea, after all. They're more creative than that.

The Edge and Larry don't seem to age.
The Edge doesn't age because he always wears that skin tight beanie on his head, which of course pulls his facial features so tight that they cannot wrinkle or sag.

Hmm...very interesting article. So much speculation, hard to know what to believe. Anyway, I noticed the guy said there was a line in "Vertigo" that went "you gotta learn how to kneel"...isn't there a line like that in "Mysterious Ways"? I'll have to go listen to it.
